Biography

Erin Shirreff’s work has been featured in recent solo exhibitions at the Milwaukee Art Museum (2025); SITE Santa Fe (2024); the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown (2021–22); the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2019); and Kunsthalle Basel (2016). A survey exhibition of her photography, sculpture, and video was held at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston and Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright-Knox Art Gallery) in 2015-16. Recent institutional group shows include Medardo Rosso: Inventing Modern Sculpture, MUMOK, Vienna and Kunstmuseum Basel (2024-25); Habitar las sombras, Institut Valencia d’Art Modern (2025); Actual Fractals III, Sculpture Milwaukee (2025-26); On the Basis of Art: 150 Years of Women at Yale, Yale University Art Gallery (2021); La Machine qui enseignait des airs aux oiseaux, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (2020); Le lieu du film, Kanal/Centre Pompidou, Brussels (2018); L’image volée, Fondazione Prada, Milan (2016), and Photo-Poetics: An Anthology, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (2015). Shirreff’s work is in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), LACMA (Los Angeles), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), and the Vancouver Art Gallery, among others. Shirreff earned an MFA in sculpture from Yale University in 2005.
