Biography
Yarema Malashchuk (b. 1993, Kolomyya, Ukraine) and Roman Khimei (b. 1992, Kolomyya, Ukraine) have collaborated since 2013, and are based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Probing the intersections of documentary and fiction to engage with Ukraine’s recent history and present, their work examines the lingering structures of post-imperial power and their impact on a new generation of Ukrainians, caught between historical trauma and an uncertain future. Notable solo exhibitions have been staged at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid), the Kunstverein Hannover, Museu de la Música de Barcelona, Voloshyn Gallery (Kyiv), and MacKenzie Art Gallery (Regina). Their work is collected by the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the Ukrainian Museum of Contemporary Art, Frac Bretagne, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Helsinki), and the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, among others.
