{"id":42,"count":2,"description":"Using a large-format film camera, Jessica Eaton has developed a complex and experimental approach to image-making and her work considers the very nature of photography. Eaton came to international acclaim through her\u00a0Cubes for Albers and LeWitt<\/em>\u00a0(commonly referred to by the acronym\u00a0cfaal<\/em>)\u2014a series of vibrant photographs that deconstruct her studio practice. Like the majority of Eaton\u2019s works, these optically charged images are made by taking multiple in-camera exposures of common studio supplies. Through her abundant use of traditional analog photography practices\u2014such as colour-separation filtering and in-camera masking\u2014Eaton imbues her large-format images with an aesthetic more reminiscent of the paintings and drawings of hard-edge geometric abstraction than the photographs of traditional studio work.\r\n\r\nBorn in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1977, Jessica Eaton currently lives and works in Montreal. She received her bachelor\u2019s degree in Fine Arts from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. Solo exhibitions have been presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland, the California Museum of Photography (Riverside), and The Photographers\u2019 Gallery (London). Eaton has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including at the Foam Fotografiemuseum (Amsterdam), the Cleveland Museum of Art\u2019s Transformer Station, the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al, the Daegu Photography Biennale (South Korea), and Presentation House Gallery (Vancouver). Eaton\u2019s work can be found in the public collections of the National Gallery of Canada and the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al (Canada), among others. In 2016, she was nominated for the prestigious Sobey Art Award, and in 2015, she was selected by the Capture Photography Festival to create a major public art commission for the city of Vancouver.
